Finding information for my 1920's cake proved to be quite a challenge. Usually, I'll find pictures and information on cakes inspired by the decade I'm working on. However, after extensive research and verification I will find information on cakes actually made in the decade I'm researching. This decade was different though; I found little to no pictures, and information was scare.

I did find out that cakes from this decade were often decorated with feathers, gems, beads, and metallic colours. I also found some popular flavours from this decade were spice/fruit cakes, and classic chocolate and vanilla cake. To decide what colours may have been popular on cakes during the 20's I looked to fashion trends for inspiration, as the decorations seemed to mimic fashion in other ways. Colours which were popular included emerald green, burgundy red, navy blue, white, black, gold, and silver.

For my cake I made a two layer German Chocolate Cake, with a pecan coconut filling, and Swiss meringue buttercream. Recipes linked here: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/german-chocolate-cake/, https://natashaskitchen.com/swiss-meringue-buttercream-recipe/. To decorate it I used heart gems, red beads, pearls, and piped roses.

This cake was one that took a lot of creativity and imagination to create, but I think it turned out really well and is a great representation of cakes from the 1920's.
